How to Plan a Yacht Charter in Masuria – The Complete 2027 Guide
Step 1: Choose the right date
The Masurian sailing season runs from May to September. Each month has its own character:
- May–June: less crowded waters, lower charter prices, changeable weather – ideal for experienced sailors and those who value peace and quiet
- July–August: peak season, full marinas, the best weather, higher prices – book 3–6 months in advance
- September: "golden autumn" in Masuria, fewer tourists, beautiful autumn colours, but cooler evenings
Step 2: Choose your crew and yacht class
The number of people on board determines which unit to choose. When choosing a yacht, follow this rule: a comfortable passenger count is usually 2 people fewer than the maximum stated in the specification. For a family of 4, a 6-person yacht will be comfortable.
To skipper a cabin yacht in Masuria, a yachtsman's sailing licence is required. Check whether someone in your crew holds the appropriate qualification. If not, we offer a charter with an experienced skipper – contact us to discuss the details.
Step 3: Plan your route
The Great Masurian Lakes are a system of connected lakes stretching over 100 km. Classic cruise routes from our base in Wilkasy:
- The Mikołajki–Giżycko loop (approx. 7 days) – the most popular route, covering the most beautiful lakes and towns of the Great Masurian Lakes
- The Great Lakes trail (10–14 days) – a full exploration of the region, from Węgorzewo to Ruciane-Nida
- A short cruise from Wilkasy (3–5 days) – for families with children or first-timers; calm lakes, short crossings
Step 4: Prepare your documents
Before picking up the yacht, gather:
- The helmsman's yachtsman's sailing licence (or a higher grade)
- A signed charter agreement (optional)
Step 5: Cruise packing list
Every yacht in our fleet is equipped with basic safety gear. From your own things, bring:
- Layered clothing – even in July evenings can be cool
- A waterproof jacket and non-marking shoes
- SPF sunscreen – the sun is more intense on the water
- A first-aid kit and motion-sickness tablets
- Paper maps as a backup for GPS
- A power bank and waterproof bags for electronics
Step 6: Picking up and returning the yacht
Picking up the yacht is a key stage. Carefully check the technical condition of the unit together with a representative of our office and record the contents of the equipment in the handover report. Standard pick-up hours are 2:00 pm–6:00 pm on the first day; return is by 11:00 am on the last day of the charter.
